Inviting facilitators at Swaraj

Whatever an education is, it should make you a unique individual, not a conformist: it should furnish you with an original spirit with which to tackle the big challenges; it should allow you to find values which will be your road map through life; it should make you spiritually rich, a person who loves whatever you are doing, wherever you are, whomever you are with; it should teach you what is important, how to live and how to die. -John Taylor Gatto
Are you in search of such a place? If yes, then you have reached the right place.
Welcome!
Swaraj– it is a call to reclaim the unique and interdependent ‘self’ – our self-respect, self-mastery and self-reliance – and to co-create healthy and resilient communities.A key element of journeys at Swaraj University is the attempt to understand how our actions/ choices are interconnected and impacting all our communities and nature. Our quest for sustainable healthy lives that nurture socially just environments has pulled us together here. If this quest calls to you too and you seek support and seek to support others in this journey, Swaraj University is a good place to do that.
Being a part of the Swaraj team most prominently means being a co-traveler with Khojis (seekers as the students at Swaraj University are called). It is obvious when they read further.
You can support this journey well for others when you do the same for yourself. Thus Swaraj University supports and expects a constant self exploration, openness to learn & unlearn, willingness and ability to question and change your own narratives, and actually living of Swaraj. This is in the form of personal time for explorations, space for experimenting with your ideas with the khojis, access to a global learning network and supporting personal learning journeys when possible. Needless to say, making the best of these depends on each individual.
We live as a small close-knit community, amidst Nature at Tapovan Ashram (link), our campus at the foot of the Aravalis. Some team members live on campus throughout the year while others come here for required periods of time.
What does being a facilitator at Swaraj University mean?
Facilitating at Swaraj University ( www.swarajuniversity.org ) means many things, most of all supporting Khojis in their internal and external, often, unconventional journeys. Khojis are 18-25 year olds, a diverse band of explorers from all over the country, with varied interests, temperaments, issues and talents. Engaging with a batch of 20 such differently minded Khojis with equal involvement, calls for a high degree of compassion, self awareness and creativity.Deep listening, embracing different ideas and identities and the ability to democratically resolve conflicts are called upon every day of being with the Khojis.Prior experience in engaging with youth is critical to holding such a space for them.
Being a facilitator at Swaraj University is a paid full time position. It involves living at Tapovan Ashram near Udaipur for at least 5-7 months spread over a year.
Being a facilitator involves:
1. Designing the various elements of the program keeping the overall purpose and philosophy in mind (curriculum design but in a more dynamic environment than usual learning programs)
2. Holding workshops and sessions, creating learning spaces, opportunities and partnerships for Khojis, based on their group and individual needs
3. Actively supporting Khojis in designing their self learning paths by
4. Being a part of the Swaraj core-team to design the overall direction and work towards it
5. Documenting, taking up admin and logistics roles as needed
6. Taking up specific roles in aspects like admissions, graduation, collaborations and expanding the Swaraj family of networks, setting up systems and processes.
7. Bringing in your gifts, areas of expertise and interest into the Swaraj space for Khojis and the team.
And more :) There are many things that a facilitator does and it would be difficult to list them all down. We operate from a space of ownership towards the dream of Swaraj and bring in our individual flavours while dancing the intricate dance of co-creation and balance with all others.
We invite you to dance with us! Can you hear the music?
Please write to us or refer people who you can visualize being a facilitator at Swaraj University. Applicants write to us at swarajuni@gmail.com sharing a brief introduction and why they would like to be at Swaraj. Please mark the subject as ‘Exploring team roles’.
